Alright then, it’s been a while. I am ashamed to say that I’ve let this slip…again. A lot has been going on. My trip to Trinidad was successful and when I say successful, considering that I left in the middle of an angry ice storm, there were few, if any hitches along the way.

While winter was raging away here in Canada, life was mellow and HOT in Trinidad. Perfect beach weather. Or more like perfect weather to stay inside in an air-conditioned room. Funny how one leaves the biting cold only to go to a hot country and seek out the coldest places just to have a smidgen of comfort.

It was nice to be with the family for Christmas, after all that’s the time when being away becomes the hardest.

Now, moving on from Christmas, that’s done and done. What’s up with the weather. It seems like Mother Nature is having some serious mood swings. It’s the topic du jour. All you have to do is mention how cold it is and you can get a group of complete strangers to join you in weather bashing as if you’ve known one another for years. Forget the frothy celebrities of Hollywood, the weather is one of the biggest celebrities this winter.

You have those who love it and those who hate it and those who love it only when it’s nice and those who hate it regardless of what it is at the moment. You know what I mean?

Compare the minus double digits we’ve been getting here with the +34 and +35 heat in Trinidad. Seriously, there’s only so much you can take off before you get arrested for indecent exposure. At least with the cold you can add layer upon layer upon layer upon layer until you look three times your size. Of course that means in an already crammed train car, we’re all human buffers. Imagine this, if the train stops suddenly, no one will fall. Like bottles in a crate.

I’ve heard the phrase, “So much for global warming.” This is what global warming is people. Extreme temperatures is one effect of this. Winters will get colder and more unpredictable. Summers will be stifling and more unpredictable. Weather patterns will be altered. Storms will become more widespread. Mood swings indeed.

Let’s see how tomorrow pans out. I predict the trains will freeze on their tracks, getting into work will be a drag tomorrow. The good news? Daylight is increasing and March will eventually be here.

There’s a light at the end of the tunnel and it’s not a train.

Here are some pics of lovely Trinidad. Enjoy!
